How much money does a T-break save?

October 12, 2026 · Not medical advice

The money is one of the most concrete things a T-break gives back. The math is simple: what you usually spend in a week, divided by seven, times the days of your break.

The quick math

Weekly spend ÷ 7 × days of your break. A few examples:

  • $40 a week: about $40 over 7 days, $80 over 14, $120 over 21.
  • $70 a week: about $70 over 7 days, $140 over 14, $210 over 21.
  • $120 a week: about $120 over 7 days, $240 over 14, $360 over 21.

Try your own number in the calculator on our home page.

Make it visible

Money you don’t spend tends to disappear into everything else. Give it a place:

  • Move the amount to a separate savings account or a jar each week.
  • Decide now what it’s for: a dinner out, a concert, a piece of gear.
  • Check the total on a hard day. A number is surprisingly motivating.

Count more than money

Some of what you keep doesn’t have a price: evenings with more energy, clearer mornings, time for things you kept putting off. Write those down too. They’re often what people remember most.

Watch it add up

Mile Zero asks what you usually spend in a week and shows what you’ll keep by the end of your road: “You’ll keep ~$210 by Santa Monica”. For help picking the length of your break, read How long should a tolerance break be?
